[leglug-users] IT Day idea

Hello all,
On our 2-3 last LEGLUG meetings, we discussed the idea of hosting an IT
day event in Beirut. This has been in my head for quite some time and i
promised i would talk about it and brainstorm with you guys on the
mailing list. This is a strictly "Draft/Brainstorming" place for this idea.
This is just a start, i'll be responsible of organizing this thread and
send a bi-daily/weekly summary of all the ideas pointed and agreed
(Depending on the traffic of this thread).
If you feel that you can participate in the organization of such event,
please reply to this thread by just stating "Hey, i can help". You will
be able to promote your assistance in a later stage.

Please share your ideas, but make sure you add your name before your
comments in this format:

I remember that Alaa Salman was very much interested -- mark --
So my ideas are the following:

    * a 1-2 days event with major sponsors, venue(s), guests, speakers
    * Example of topics/events/guest speakers:
          o I.T in Lebanon + Management
          o ADSL service in Lebanon
          o Ogero's plans for the future
          o Lebanese .gov, we can invite Marwan Hmede and Ghenwa Jaloul
            to answer questions
          o Introduction of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority
            (TRA) and what does it do and what are it's authorities over
            DSPs/ISPs/GSM operators
          o Ripe Community and the RIPE NCC since Lebanon deals with
            RIPE NCC for IPv4/v6 assignment (ripe.net)
          o Menog, The Middle East Network Operators Group which is a
            regional forum offering network engineers and other
            technical staff the opportunity to share knowledge and
            experiences and identify areas for regional corporation
            (menog.net)
          o LEGLUG can promote Linux/GNU products
          o Oracle/Cisco/Microsoft people talking about the latest in
            their products
          o Formatech/New Horizons can put stands, give discounts
          o Big development companies can talk about their market in the
            gulf and can guide/direct students for their choice of
            courses to take,  programing languages to learn etc...
          o ISP/DSPs can talk about their infrastructures
          o VoIP and IP telephony (Carriers)
          o Arabeyes.org
          o High Availability Facebook/MySPACE/Wikipedia
          o ....the ideas are endless
    * Place LAU/AUB/Biel/UNESCO/Virgin/Forum de Beyrouth/Hotels,
      anyways, somewhere big, with good location
    * It can also be incorporated within Termium 2007 (IF its gonna
      happen), or during the same week
