centos does not require to have redhat preinstalled on your system

centos is a fork of redhat where they depricate the redhat legality
reservations. otherwise it is identical. the only differences between
centos and rhel is the fact that centos uses a different update
infrastructure than rhel for obvious reasons.

you can download centos and install it just as any other distro or you
can configure your existing redhat to update from centos repositories
with yum and convert from rhel to centos.
