Well, the discussion mainly revolved around the accessibility and usability
studies that went into Gnome after Sun got involved. They did it for
commercial reasons, but the benefits were for everybody.(to sell to
government institutions, there are minimum standards for accessibility and
usability among other things) But anyway, I don't advocate one solution over
the other unless there are strong technical basis for it. Otherwise, i say
that you should try everything, and with today's virtualization solutions,
it should be very easy.
You should be able to find all the information on Gnome's architecture on
the web, i think that there are a couple of weak parts in it, but they will
be replaced(mainly the bonbo architecture).
I don't understand your other questions though.
