you can't actually blame Vista for photoshop's performance. I use photoshop
daily in my work, and it's a memory hog. Similarly to firefox, it doesn't
release memory once you close stuff because it does its own memory
management.

I think that to be fair, one has to test both in what you actually do daily,
not by trying to bring them to their knees to see when they crack.. I'd
happily take the system that allows me to do what I want easily without
getting in my way, even if it needs more resources, you pay for the
resources once, but it's nothing compared to the daily frustrations of
trying to get work done when the system suffers from amnesia and you have to
keep reminding it who's in charge every couple of minutes (cancel or allow?)
