[leglug-users] Looks! (was: Almost meeting time)

Not to speak-ill of the Vista look and feel, I should honestly say
it's a step forward in usability from Windows XP, which in my opinion
is very usable. The new features presented in the Aero GUI go beyond
the translucency and window animations, I think. It's a matter of how
friendly and how usable a GUI really is, how fast do you find things
and how fast do you perform certain tasks (after you get used to the
GUI). In these aspects, Aero is at least 30% faster than XP in my own
humble experience.

Oh, and I can't offer advice on themes either, I don't like to mess
with Windows themes. for some reason modified themes seem to slow it
down! so I don't touch the stuff...

Now how can one compare this to, let's say Gnome? One should be
proficient in Gnome to say, and I'm not! Since the compiz I tested was
Gnome centric, all I could do was play around with the different
plugins (wobbly windows, transparency, the cube, etc...) They're "mind
boggling". But would I use them on a daily basis? I would use the
cube, that's cool. But the rest is just eye candy (not usability).

I use Enlightenment on my linux boxes (laptop, desktop). It's fast,
it's quick, it's lean and mean, with plenty of eye candy to impress
the person looking over your shoulder. It's not perfect, but it's easy
to learn/teach and fix remotely (like when I call mom on the phone and
ask her to get me something info from the home PC).

you can watch some really nice videos on what dev. versions of compiz
can do http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD7QraljRfM (beryl!)

I did try these... but like I said, I don't use Gnome that often.
