Sure. I mainly notice it when i am using vmware server(even running just 
  1 machine). I notice some slow down in GNOME, but i think that it is 
relevant to GNOME or nautilus.

These are the numbers. I know that supposedly i should be using sdparm 
for SATA devices, but i am a little short on information on how to do that.

john at Cenarius:~$ sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
  Timing cached reads:   2932 MB in  2.00 seconds = 1464.82 MB/sec
  Timing buffered disk reads:  148 MB in  3.03 seconds =  48.86 MB/sec
