hmm... get a midrange machine ( elcheapo Corduo or the elcheapo AMD64's, 1G+
ram, as for mobo midrange don't get low end stuff.., hdd well I guess 120g+
depending on what your going to have there...)
learn how to play with eclipse, get the C/C++ files ...It is free... get
ubuntu (also free) , Virtual box (it is like Wm ware but Free as in legaly
free and it got a .deb for ubuntu ), if your PC comes with a licensed XP ,
you can keep that or just reinstall XP on a virtual machine (i did that coz
in uni we have to do some programing at home and guess what... win32
only)... if you get a pc with no os... then well just but it... :)
This whole setup should be under 800$... as for the software the only
license you need to bye would be for XP... as you can find good alternatives
for everything else .... oh and if you can get a free visual at uni... take
it... it is an exellent environment for win apps... I know.. M$ is evil but
that would be one of the best things to come out of their labs...
